Geocoaching and wrap-up.

I think geocoaching would be more useful at academic libraries, especially for introducing the new students to their campus. I can't actually see much relevance for us, except that we need to know what it is. I personally am not interested in geocoaching, but I could see from the various sites I visited in Australia that alot of other people are!

Overall, I enjoyed doing this course. I would have liked to have gone to the second of the information sessions with Ghylene, but having to work things out myself was a good learning experience. The most interesting parts were th podcasting, introduction to blogging, and how to share images.

Oh, and one last comment for you Ghylene.

Podcasting

I have learned heaps with this unit on podcasting, even though I thought I was pretty familiar with it already.

I noted that Cockburn put out a podcast for a local history talk, even though I couldn't actually get it to work! This seems like a good area for our library to cover too. Perhaps Leesa could do some talks about her interesting discoveries with the readers in Cambridge who were researching their ancestors! (I liked the recent story on your blog, Leesa).
When we have our own library blog  some of our more interesting Guest Speakers' talks could be podcast after the event.
A special Cambridge Library Readers' Blog which I proposed last year, should contain links to podcasts:  for instance of the ABC Radio National's Book Show, or other programs that feature talks by authors (eg Margaret Throsby's interviws on Classic FM). Other general arts podcasts could also be included as we find them. The ABC also has podcasts of play readings and book readings, so these could be included too.

You Tube embedding

Here is my You Tube video all about Manarola in the Cinque Terre (Italy.)
I visited this area in May and can honestly say the video is a faithful depiction of Manarola.. even down to the hords of tourists!

Facebook Thoughts

I set up a Facebook page last year, and haven't used it much, except to look at some photos from my daughter, and to collect names of people who want to be my friend. My daughter uses her Facebook to keep in touch with her cousin and her friends, but has a high level of privacy (I think i know why!)
I just went in and checked my page and read some recent postings. I won't be using this for work purposes, although I had a look at the State Library Facebook page and thought it worked well.
I'll just leave you with one last comment that I think I will add to my facebook page very soon.

LibraryThing

I have created a LibraryThing account, & put 2 book titles on my LibraryThing spot on my blog.
This was done with the help of Jane, without whose timely interventention this entire project would have foundered. But the Good Ship Heathcliffe sails on for another adventure. Next up, Delicious!
I have created a d\Delicious account. The link is:

http://www.delicious.com/annwake21

I also have a yahoo account annwake21@yahoo.com.au
I am looking forward to being able to see the videos about Delicious and LibraryThing and all the videos we haven't seen yet!

Wikis etc

I have seen how a wiki is created with wetpaint and our wiki is less complicated than this one. Even though I won't be using a new wiki as we have our own, it has been a great learning experience to create one. A fun tool if one were getting up an online book club!

Wiki exploration

There was a wiki that showed US public libraries wikis!
The Local Government wiki has an RSS feed (See, I'm learning!)
The NSW Readers Advisory wiki has links to a twitter reading group.
Wookipedia is for Star Wars fans (boring!)
We already have a wiki for the library. Used extensively. Better than emails for staff.
